Last Friday, we were blessed to be the recipients of Josie Boutorwick’s Senior Project. Josie is a student at Austin Catholic High School. She chose Catholic School Week to organize a Food Drive for our pantry.
At Austin, the students from different grades are placed in “Houses.” This encourages them to really get to know and interact with each other at different grade levels. Every day, the students were encouraged to bring in needed items. They were in competition to see which House could bring in the most food and supplies for the pantry families. The House that brought in the most items won the competition and were rewarded with a “dress down day,” in addition they received one week where they did not have to take their turn at cleaning the school’s lunchroom. It is so good to see young people taking such interest in helping others. We are so grateful for the outreach that seems to be happening in our church family. The pictures below show Josie and her twin brother Jacob and just some of the items they delivered. Over 439 items we collected!
Because of this project and recent donations from St. Terese of Lisieux our shelves are getting stocked. As you know with 25-30 families coming each week, this will not last. This week the Lenten Alms is for the Food Pantry; your generosity will allow us to provide much needed meat and fresh produce for the families we serve.

El viernes pasado tuvimos la suerte de ser beneficiarios del Proyecto de Graduación de Josie Boutorwick. Josie es estudiante de la Preparatoria Católica Austin. Eligió la Semana de la Escuela Católica para organizar una colecta de alimentos para nuestra despensa.
En Austin, los estudiantes de diferentes grados se dividen en “Casas”. Esto les anima a conocerse e interactuar entre sí en los diferentes grados. Cada día, se animaba a los estudiantes a traer los artículos necesarios. Competían para ver qué Casa podía traer la mayor cantidad de alimentos y suministros para las familias de la despensa. La Casa que trajo más artículos ganó la competencia y recibió un día de “vestimenta informal”. Además, recibieron una semana en la que no tuvieron que participar en la limpieza del comedor escolar. Es muy grato ver a los jóvenes tan interesados en ayudar a los demás. Estamos muy agradecidos por el trabajo comunitario que parece estar ocurriendo en nuestra iglesia. Gracias a este proyecto y a las recientes donaciones de Santa Teresita de Lisieux, nuestros estantes se están llenando. Como saben, con la llegada de 25 a 30 familias cada semana, esta situación no durará. Esta semana, la limosna de Cuaresma es para la Despensa de Alimentos; su generosidad nos permitirá proporcionar carne y productos frescos muy necesarios para las familias a las que servimos.
