Are we ever completely ready? We’ve all faced moments where we sense God nudging us forward, and that quiet question surfaces: Am I really ready for this? In spite of the hesitation, we take the step.
I certainly experienced that situation when God called me to the diaconate at a time in life when many are slowing down. I thought all the big decisions—career, family, major commitments—were behind me, but then I received this unexpected call. It meant years of formation, classes, spiritual direction, and study, all while still working full-time. There were moments of doubt when I wondered if I could handle the demands, balance my responsibilities, and live up to the calling. Honestly, it felt overwhelming. I wasn’t ready. But God made (and continues to make) a way.
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus entrusts Peter with a mission that would shape the Church: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). Peter wasn’t chosen because he was flawless. We know his weaknesses—his impulsiveness, his failures, even his denial of Jesus—yet the Lord saw beyond Peter’s limits and called him anyway. Peter stepped forward, not because he was ready, but because he trusted Jesus.
Paul’s leap of faith was equally remarkable. Once a fierce persecutor of Christians, he surrendered completely to Christ. His mission led him into danger, rejection, beatings, and imprisonment, yet even near the end of his life, he could still say, “The Lord stood by me and gave me strength” (2 Timothy 4:17). Neither Peter nor Paul waited to feel qualified; they trusted God to work through their weaknesses.
For Peter and Paul, these leaps weren’t rare exceptions. They were part of an ongoing relationship—a constant pattern of hearing God’s voice, trusting His lead, and taking the next step. God wasn’t calling them once; He was calling them again and again, each time inviting them deeper.
That’s where faith lives—not in waiting until we feel ready, but in trusting that God is.
You’ve walked this path before—facing uncertainty yet still choosing to trust where God was leading. And He’s still leading you now. Where is He nudging you? To reach out, to forgive, to serve, or simply to pray? The invitation remains; follow the nudge. God will meet you with the grace you need for the step ahead.

En el Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús le confía a Pedro una misión que moldearía la Iglesia: «Tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia» (Mateo 16:18). Pedro no fue elegido por ser perfecto. Conocemos sus debilidades —su impulsividad, sus fracasos, incluso su negación de Jesús—, pero el Señor vio más allá de los límites de Pedro y lo llamó de todos modos. Pedro dio un paso al frente, no porque estuviera listo, sino porque confiaba en Jesús.
El salto de fe de Pablo fue igualmente extraordinario. Habiendo sido un feroz perseguidor de cristianos, se entregó por completo a Cristo. Su misión lo llevó al peligro, al rechazo, a las palizas y al encarcelamiento; sin embargo, incluso cerca del final de su vida, aún pudo decir: «El Señor estuvo a mi lado y me fortaleció» (2 Timoteo 4:17). Ni Pedro ni Pablo esperaron a sentirse capacitados; confiaron en que Dios obraría a través de sus debilidades.
Para Pedro y Pablo, estos saltos no fueron excepciones. Formaron parte de una relación continua: un patrón constante de escuchar la voz de Dios, confiar en su guía y dar el siguiente paso. Dios no los llamaba una sola vez; los llamaba una y otra vez, cada vez invitándolos a profundizar.
Ahí reside la fe: no en esperar a sentirnos listos, sino en confiar en que Dios está ahí.
Ya has recorrido este camino antes: enfrentaste la incertidumbre y, aun así, elegiste confiar en la guía de Dios. Y Él sigue guiándote ahora. ¿Adónde te impulsa? ¿A tender la mano, a perdonar, a servir o simplemente a orar? La invitación sigue vigente; sigue el impulso. Dios te acompañará con la gracia que necesitas para dar el paso adelante.
