What kingdom am I supporting by my choices? This is an important question that requires deep reflection. When I think about the concept of a kingdom, all that comes to mind is one man who rules and exercises his authority over a vast number of people. He is untouchable by any other authoritative body in his kingdom—so powerful that he can do anything to fulfill his ambitions, desires, and dreams, and punish anyone who disagrees with him. The well-being of all those people depends on this one man’s decision-making.
If we analyze the question carefully, we can reason that there is more than one kingdom. What are they? The earthly kingdom and the heavenly kingdom. And who rules them? The devil rules the earthly kingdom, and the heavenly kingdom belongs to God. Do I have any evidence to support my statements? Yes, I do. Examine the Gospel of Luke (4:5–6): “Then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant. The devil said to him, ‘I shall give to you all this power and their glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish.’” And in the Gospel of John (18:36), “Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here.’”
Therefore, whenever I hear about power being exercised and the oppressed suffering under modern-day leaders, I can only imagine that the devil is at work. And, through our choices, we unfortunately support his efforts to destroy the kingdom of God. What are some choices that support the earthly kingdom and, therefore, the devil’s handiwork?
- Supporting violence, war, abuse, killing, and corruption
- Holding grudges and being unforgiving, unkind, unjust, immoral, and hateful
- Being a slave to lust, drugs, wealth, fortune, entertainment, fame, and popularity (above being a slave of power and authority)
Furthermore, we refuse to support the kingdom of God by:
- Not choosing to be merciful, kind, just, loving, compassionate, forgiving, and peaceful
- Allowing ourselves to be influenced by the evil glitter of this world and its tempting attractions
Why? The choices given by this world are easy to follow, while those given by our Lord Jesus are difficult. Straightforward, isn’t it? We need to remember that God delivered us from this evil earthly kingdom by sacrificing His only son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. We received an invitation from God to enter His kingdom, but it is up to us to accept or refuse it.
I invite you all to reflect on the beautiful encounter between Jesus and the good thief. The good thief acknowledges his sins and accepts that he is unworthy to be with Jesus in His kingdom, urging his fellow thief to fear God. He pleads with Jesus, saying, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Just imagine if we all adopted that mindset: approaching Jesus with utter humility and sincere acknowledgment of a sinful nature. I am sure there would be no pride in our devotion—only a deeper connection and a beautiful, personal encounter with our Lord. Therefore, let us not take advantage of His mercy and forgiveness but instead make choices that would support the kingdom of God. Amen.

¿A qué reino apoyo con mis decisiones? Es una pregunta importante que requiere una profunda reflexión. Cuando pienso en el concepto de reino, lo único que recuerdo es a un hombre gobernando sobre una gran multitud, ejerciendo su autoridad sobre su pueblo. Es intocable para cualquier otra autoridad en su reino y tan poderoso que puede hacer lo que sea necesario para satisfacer sus ambiciones, deseos y sueños, castigando a cualquiera que discrepe con él. El bienestar de todas esas personas depende de la decisión de este hombre. Si analizamos la pregunta con detenimiento, podemos darnos cuenta de que existen varios reinos. ¿Cuáles son esos reinos? El reino terrenal y el reino celestial. ¿Quiénes son los gobernantes de estos reinos? El reino terrenal pertenece al diablo y el reino celestial a Dios. ¿Tengo alguna prueba para afirmar que mi afirmación es verdadera y pertinente? Sí. Consideremos el Evangelio de Lucas 4:5-6: «Entonces lo llevó a un lugar alto y le mostró en un instante todos los reinos del mundo. El diablo le dijo: “Te daré todo este poder y su gloria, porque me ha sido entregado, y puedo dárselo a quien yo quiera”». Y si consideramos el Evangelio de Juan 18:36, Jesús respondió: «Mi reino no es de este mundo. Si mi reino fuera de este mundo, mis servidores lucharían para que no me entregaran a los judíos; pero mi reino no está aquí».
Por lo tanto, cada vez que oigo hablar del abuso de poder y la opresión de los más débiles por parte de los líderes actuales, solo puedo imaginar que el diablo está actuando. Y, lamentablemente, con nuestras decisiones apoyamos su esfuerzo por destruir el reino de Dios. ¿Qué decisiones tomamos para apoyar el reino terrenal? 1. Apoyando la violencia, la guerra, los abusos, los asesinatos y la corrupción. 2. Siendo implacables, crueles, injustos, inmorales, rencorosos, llenos de odio y sed de venganza. 3. Siendo esclavos de la lujuria, las drogas, la riqueza, la fortuna, el entretenimiento, la fama y la popularidad, por encima del poder y la autoridad. Estas son algunas de las decisiones que tomamos para apoyar el reino del diablo (terrenal). En cambio, nos negamos a apoyar el reino de Dios al no elegir ser: 1. Misericordiosos, bondadosos, justos, amables, compasivos, indulgentes y pacíficos. 2. Permitiéndonos ser influenciados por el brillo maligno de este mundo y sus tentadoras atracciones. ¿Por qué? Porque las opciones que ofrece este mundo son fáciles de seguir, mientras que las que nos ofrece nuestro Señor Jesucristo son difíciles de seguir. ¿Sencillo, verdad? Pues bien, debemos recordar cómo Dios nos liberó de este reino terrenal malvado al sacrificar a su único Hijo, nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Recibimos la invitación de Dios para entrar en su reino, pero depende de nosotros aceptarla o rechazarla.
Los invito a reflexionar sobre el hermoso encuentro entre el buen ladrón y Jesús, donde el buen ladrón reconoce sus pecados y acepta ser un pecador indigno de estar con Jesús en su reino. Insiste en el temor de Dios ante su compañero ladrón y le ruega a Jesús: «Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en tu reino». Imaginen si todos adoptáramos esta mentalidad del buen ladrón, acercándonos a Jesús con total humildad y sincero reconocimiento de nuestra naturaleza pecadora. Estoy seguro de que no habría orgullo en nuestra devoción, sino una conexión más profunda y un hermoso encuentro personal con nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Por lo tanto, no abusemos de su misericordia y perdón; más bien, esforcémonos por elegir aquellas decisiones que apoyen el reino de Dios. Amén.
